What’s Good, Krayzie Bone? (Exclusive Interview) In the wild world of hip hop that is full of pastels and skinny jeans thanks to the new era trying to bring it back, thank goodness there are still some throwback artists that we can appreciate and Cleveland's own Krayzie Bone is one of them. On a windy Friday night, I got to catch up on things with Krayzie Bone from weed to his crew getting back together. Badnews: How have you been? Krayzie Bone: I've been doing good man. Just working in the studio, the year has been off to a real good start. I finally been released from Interscope, we were able to get all ownership to our masters and other material and we are right now in the process of buckling down and starting new label BTNH Worldwide. Badnews: BTNH Worldwide? Krayzie Bone: Yeah. It’s a label we created, and we will put out all of our Bone projects we ever recorded or what we will record in the future, and other established artist who want to make a bigger name for themselves. Badnews: That’s what's up. Now last time we spoke you made a lot of personal changes like quitting marijuana and eating healthier, how is that going? Krayzie Bone: Well I can't lie; I slipped up a couple of times. You can’t go cold turkey doing something you done for years. I use to go hard, I would smoke about four or five blunts a day, but I just slowed down. Badnews: So the cold turkey thing didn’t really work right? Krayzie Bone: Not really, I just slow down. It’s a hard thing to do. Badnews: Well since you slowed down, do you see yourself a lot more focused? Krayzie Bone: Yeah I do. Let me be honest, I'm not getting anymore younger. Plus I have kids now, so I have to be more cautious around them. Badnews: I feel that. Now just going back several months, you were set to work on a movie titled Ghetto Cowboys. How is that whole project going? Krayzie Bone: It’s doing a lot better now. The past few months it stalled a little bit, you know the investors were procrastinating, but right now we are trying to get it over to Paramount. Last year the people we were dealing with wasted my time, but we have a brand new staff and brand new energy so everything will be underway Badnews: Now is it still going to be the same script? Nothing will be altered right? Krayzie Bone: It’s still the same script and nothing will ever be changed. It was written 10 years ago so nothing should be changed. Plus it was set back in the 1800’s anyway. Badnews: Ok. Now you were also working on a Gospel album… how is that coming along? Krayzie Bone: It was never a gospel album; it was going to be a clean album with no cursing. It’s just a clean album. That’s my next solo album titled Chasing the Devil. (The album is) actually talking about my view point of things… how the world looks to me. There’s a lot of people chasing fame, money and women, but they’re really just chasing the Devil. There is a couple of hardcore tracks and mellow stuff on the album. I’m almost done dropping this time. I went back through my old stuff and I cursed a lot. And then there were some songs were I didn’t curse at all, and when I compared the two, I was basically saying the same thing as far as the message or the point. I realized it’s the same message, so why curse all day in the song if nobody will realize the difference? Nobody will realize, its clean. Everything still sounds the same. So why not make it clean, so kids will listen to it. It will reach more people. Badnews: Do you think in this era, it will be more difficult to get the younger audience attention through your music being curse free? Krayzie Bone: Yeah. But it’s always hard to reach kids. Kids don’t take responsibility serious. I think our music connects people of all races and ages, and as long as it’s good, people will grab on to it. Our fan base is from age seven on up. It’s crazy. We do shows and we see young kids singing our songs and rapping to them. These kids probably weren’t even born when we first released our music. We have to do all age shows now. We have to be more public friendly. Badnews: Well you’re a legend; I think your already public friendly. Now speaking about public, I know there are a few rumors that Bone is getting ready to work with K- Fed and Vanilla Ice. Is that true? Krayzie Bone: Hell no about that Vanilla Ice thing. But K-Fed knew some of our people, and his people wanted us to produce some kind of music for him or write for him. His people contacted our people trying to help him and we agreed. Badnews: So you already hit the studio with him? Krayzie Bone: No not yet in studio, but we are meeting tonight see if we can work with him. We got to see if he has decent story that the public would be interested in. I haven’t been in the studio with him yet, so I won’t say anything about him until I know what’s going on. Badnews: That’s fair enough. So the K-Fed rumors are semi true and the Vanilla Ice rumors are false. Krayzie Bone:Hell Yeah about that Vanilla Ice one. I never even met that guy before. That is new to me I didn’t hear that one Badnews: I promise you that’s what I heard (laughs). It’s the wonderful world of the internet. Now moving on, how did the BTNH reunion come about? Was there a lot of animosity and friction to talk out or did it just take all of you to sit in one room and talk it out? Krayzie Bone: Flesh came home, and with Bizzy going through things, those were the only two we had to pull back in. You got family so stuff happens. Certain people drift away. We were never over “OVER”. People needed space and time to breathe. There was nothing but good times. The drama came about us not being together. But I guarantee you the Unified album will be the sickest thing ever. I witnessed it… I’m a witness. Then I’ll drop the mix tape Vol. 2 on March 23rd. And our other project is teaming up with Lil’ JJ. We’re working on music writing producing for him. This is a franchise year. A lot of Bone and business. We have a new staff; new people around us 2009 will be a great year. Badnews: That’s what’s up. It sounds like it will be an interesting year. So to recap, The Mix tape Vol. 2 will be out March 23rd, you have the Unified album from Bone Thugs i n Harmony, one of the greatest rap groups of all time and you’re working with Lil JJ and Ghetto Cowboys is still on deck… Krayzie Bone: Yeah, it’s going to be a good year. Badnews: I agree, you’re really blessed. Now before I let you go, I Have got to ask you about your thoughts on the Chris Brown/Rihanna situation? Krayzie Bone: There both young and we all make mistakes. The media that talks about him should let Brown and Rihanna handle that on their own. They need to mind their own business. He apologized, let them worry about. You can’t convict him yet. Young people make mistakes just like old people still make mistakes. http://hiphopruckus.com/2009/02/what...interview.html |
