Kanye West Lights Up DNC W/ Bittersweet Performance, "I Wish My Momma Could Have Seen This Day"

Grammy-winning rapper Kanye West and singer/actor Jamie Foxx took center stage at one of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) events this morning to show his support for party's first black nominee Barack Obama.

West made a brief introduction at the ONE anti-poverty campaign sponsored by U2’s Bono and the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), According to the Associated Press.

Expressing his excitement to be a witness to such an historic moment in time, ‘Ye also took the time to acknowledge his recently passed mother, Donda West. “It’s an incredible time to be around,” he told the crowd. “I wish my momma could have seen this day.”

Prior to performing his hit singles including “Touch the Sky”, “Home” and “Stronger,” Yeezy was joined by fellow Academy Award-winner Jamie Foxx. “We make history, man,” Foxx said. “With Obama, we make history. If you ready for Obama, make some noise. Yo man, let’s do this for Obama.”

The two then kicked-off the event by singing “Gold Digger” as ‘Ye concluded his set revealing two new unreleased songs recently written that focused on relationships and heartbreak in politics. The event featured well-known celebrities Forest Whitaker and Ashley Judd plus various delegates including senators and governors throughout the United States.

As previously reported, a strong line-up of hip-hop superstars were tagged to perform at this weeks’ DNC like Wyclef Jean and N.E.R.D.
