Acting on a tip-off from the public, officers raided the house on Weenamana Place, Padstow, in Sydney's south-west at 8pm (AEDT) on Friday.

Police said they were astounded by the size of the haul and believed the seizure of tablets and 50 kilograms of unpressed MDMA powder would dent drug supply in the city.

One room of the house was devoted to a pill processing operation, while the tablets were stored in various containers in the kitchen, police said.

Two men believed to have lived at the address are now being sought for questioning.

Police said the bust dismantled a major Sydney drug processing operation, and would have a huge impact on the supply of the drug over the Christmas period.

"There is little doubt that this massive seizure will have significant availability of illicit drugs in Sydney over the festive season," Bankstown commander Superintendent Stuart Wilkins told reporters.

"We have been astounded at its size - it is amongst the largest I've ever seen."

Police do not know whether the Padstow operation was part of a larger drug syndicate, but were treating it as a possibility, Supt Wilkins said.

"You certainly want to catch up with the men who are living at that house, and then from there we will take investigations further to see if this has wider implications on organised crime," he said.
