Default DJ Quik - Quik Is The Name (1991) review

Released: 01/01/91
Label: Profile Records
RIAA: Platinum

I'll be posting the music video's that they made for there songs. Click the one's that are underlined.

Quik Is the Name is the debut album from Compton rapper/producer DJ Quik, released on January 1, 1991 on Profile Records. It peaked at number 29 on the Billboard 200 sales chart. The album was certified platinum by the RIAA on July 26, 1995. It is his best selling album to date. Singles featured on the album include "Tonite", "Born and Raised in Compton", and "Sweet Black Pussy". In 1998, the album was selected as one of The Source's 100 Best Rap Albums.

1. Sweet Black Pussy: This is one of the singles for his 1st album. The title of the song sums up to what this song is about. I like it.

2. YouTube - Dj Quik - Tonite: Another single from the album. This is one of my favorite songs. I also love the music video, they did a nice job. This song is about gettin fucked up at a party and all that shit.

3. YouTube - DJ Quik - Born & Raised in Compton: The last single off the album. This is my #1 favorite out of all of these songs on this album and maybe all the other DJ Quik songs from his different albums. DJ Quik is representing where he's from on this one.

4. Deep (Feat. Tha D, KK, & AMG): Pretty good song. Not too crazy about it. There just talkin about how not to be fucked with because they roll deep.

5. Tha Bombudd: Shit, this is just one of those songs to kick back and smoke a fatty to. It's got that Bob Marley reggae feeling to it. The song is just about gettin high.

6. Dedication: DJ Quik does a dedication to all his dead homies that didn't live to see Quik's album to come out. The beat is very well done.

7. YouTube - DJ Quik - Quik Is The Name: This is another good track and I don't understand why this wasn't a single. This should've been a 4th single, but it is what it is. I think this song is about him not takin any shit from anybody.

8. Loked Out Hood: Another good track. A lot of rappers have used that sample before.

9. 8 Ball: This is just one of those good funky tracks that Quik laid out. The title says it all.

10. Quik's Groove: An instrumental track. It's the same as Dedication except this one is just about 17 seconds longer. This track is somethin to get high to just like the other Quik's Grooves.

11. Tear It Off (Feat. AMG): Good song. Another funky track. AMG's versus is pretty fuckin dope.

12. I Got That Feelin' This is my other good track from Quik. I like how Quik was makin fun of AMG bein scarred of pussy and the beat is all slow n funkay.

13. Skanless (Feat. 2nd II None, AMG, & Hi-C) The last song of the album. Wasn't too crazy about it either but the ending is kinda funny.

Overall I give this album

Notes: What I don't get is that Quik never said anything about MC Eiht. I mean, Eiht dissed Quik in his 1st C.M.W. album in 1990 and the beef started when Quik released his demo tape in 1986. Maybe I missed it....correct me if I'm wrong.

yea, dj quik never said anything bad about ehit at first. mc eiht had thought quik dissed em on the red tapes in 86-87 because he(quik) said "to the top of the tree, with c.m.w. see," quik was just letting him know that both sides were on the come up. I guess eiht juss heard "CMW" and thought he was droppin names. There is a song that expalins the situation. It's DJ Quik - Let U Have It off of safe and sound. theres also the original version of the song which is more raw & uncut, and has another verse on there off off "Mr. Quikks Hidden Stash" Quik ripped him a new asshole on that song.

and this album is tha fuckin shit by the way
