Haystak (born Jason Winfree) is an American rapper of Irish and German descent. He is native of Nashville, Tennessee, who was raised in an upper middle class home by his grandparents, but often was around inmpovershed surroundings. At age 15, he was arrested for possession of cocaine and valium at the school he attended and was given a two-year sentence. When he was released, He turned to rap music as his way out of that life. In the late '90s he defied the odds by aligning himself with a local rap label, Street Flavor, and producers Kevin Grisham and Sonny Paradise. That partnership would result in Mak Million, Haystak's debut album, which was released on September 15, 1998. That would be followed two years later by Car Fulla White Boys. Haystak would see a substantial regional following with the two albums. On September 26, 2000, Koch records would sign Haystak and re-release Car Fulla White Boys, after seeing how successful it was in the regional market. Two years later, on July 23, 2002, Koch records would release Haystak's third album, The Natural. Subsequently, Haystak would seemingly put out a CD a year, beginning with Return of Mak Million, his final Koch records release on February 4, 2003, Portrait Of A White Boy, his first for 40 West records and the first of what he called "the white boy trilogy" on October 19, 2004, which also included From Start To Finish released August 2, 2005, and "Crackavelli", his very first double CD released March 20, 2007. A clean-language version of this CD was released on May 22 of 2007, as his appeal by this time was broadened to even the youngest of fans. On August 26, 2008, Haystak would release Hard To Love And in an unheard of move, he would follow that CD album with yet another just one (1) week later called "Cracks The Safe" on Siccness records on September 2, 2008. Haystak is currently working on a new CD due sometime in the spring, followed by a greatest hits CD, also due this year.
Haystak is married and has one child, a daughter named Michaela. In additon to rap music, he would embark on an acting career; he had a cameo in the Academy Award nominated move "Hustle and Flow" and was featured in the documentary, "White Boyz Can't Rap".
