Hijacker Caught in Jamaica Mon

Livesteez is reporting that a crazed gun man hijacked a plane in Jamaica:

Jamaican officials captured an armed man who bogarted his way onto a plane, held six crew members hostage and demanded to be flown to Cuba at a Jamaican airport. The Associated Press reported that the incident occurred around 10p.m. Sunday at Sangster International Airport. The Boeing 737 CanJet aircraft was destined for Cuba but never departed form the runway. After barging onto the jet, the gunmen, who is believed to be mentally challenged, released all the passengers and two crew members. The captives were held through the night while officials negotiated to secure the release of the remaining crew members.

According to CNN reports, an airline spokesperson revealed that the gunman fired a shot in the boarding bridge to the plane upon entry. No one was injured. The spokesperson further confirmed that aircraft took flight from Halifax, Canada and had made its scheduled landing in Montego Bay, when the armed man seized the plane that was scheduled for a later departure to Santa Clara, Cuba. The airline’s Vice President, Kent Woodside, confirmed the CanJet flight 918 was carrying 174 passengers and eight crew members. He reported that all passengers were Canadian. Upon release the occupants were bussed to a hotel while the airport was locked down.

Jamaica’s Information Minister Daryl Vaz said, “The hijacking is that from a mentally challenged youngster and not anything that would be of concern in terms of an international incident. His demand was to go to Cuba,” he said. A passenger on the flight, Christian Gosselin, told his father, Alphonse, that the gunman demanded money from the plane’s occupants. “The guy wanted to have all their money,” said Alphonse. “He (my son) told his girlfriend to take all the money and just take her passport and credit card and put it in her back pocket.”
